There's a whine coming from my ASX that seems to follow the engine speed rather than the road speed, and it's gotten louder over the past month. It's most noticeable when accelerating between 40 and 80, then fades once I'm cruising. I've had two garages look at it and both shrugged, one said it was normal, the other said they couldn't hear it, which was frustrating since I hear it every single day. I found royalprinceautocare.com/brands/mitsubishi while searching for someone who actually works on these regularly, but I'm wondering if a transmission whine is even something a workshop can diagnose without stripping things down. Has anyone had a similar noise on an ASX and what did it turn out to be? I'm worried it's the CVT on its way out, and I'd rather know sooner than later.
